Our Foundation

Church History

Our church was established in 2015 in Harrismith, founded by Pastor Khule Mthethwa in obedience to God's calling and vision for soul-winning and community transformation. From humble beginnings, the church has grown into a place of hope, faith, and impact.

Since its inception, the church has played a meaningful role within the community—supporting learners to access tertiary education (Varsity) and creating employment opportunities, helping to uplift lives and restore dignity through practical Christian service.

In 2018, the church reached a significant milestone with the construction of its own church building. This was made possible through great sacrifice and faith, as Pastor Khule Mthethwa prioritized building the House of God above personal needs, choosing not to build a personal home to fulfill the vision God had given him.

The church building was officially dedicated from 27 May to 02 June by Apostle JB Makananisa, marking a season of thanksgiving, revival, and renewal.

Mission & Vision

Our Mission is to:
Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Win souls and make disciples
Equip believers to live lives of faith and purpose
Serve and uplift our community through love and action

We believe the church is not just a building, but a people called to represent Christ wherever they go.

Our Vision:
Our vision is to be a Spirit-led church that transforms lives, families, and communities through the preaching of the Gospel, discipleship, and service—bringing good news to the poor and hope to the broken.

Pastor Khule Mthethwa

Pastor Khule Mthethwa

Founder & Senior Pastor

Pastor Khule Mthethwa is the founder and senior pastor of the church, established in 2015 in Harrismith in response to God's calling. He is a qualified Software Engineer by profession and has worked overseas, gaining valuable international experience before returning to South Africa.

Upon his return, Pastor Khule worked at Telkom, where he built a strong professional career. However, driven by a clear calling into ministry, he made the life-changing decision to resign from his position to fully pursue the work of God and establish the ministry.

Pastor Khule's leadership is marked by faith, sacrifice, and obedience. In 2018, he demonstrated exceptional commitment by prioritizing the construction of the House of God, choosing to invest everything into building the church rather than personal gain, including postponing the building of his own home.

He carries a strong passion for soul-winning, revival, and community upliftment, particularly in empowering young people through education and employment opportunities. His ministry is grounded in the Word of God, led by the Holy Spirit, and focused on bringing good news to the poor.

Setting the Captives Free – Healing & Deliverance Ministry

At Charis Missionary Church Harrismith, we are a church that believes in the power of God to heal, deliver, and restore lives. Our Healing & Deliverance Ministry operates with faith in Jesus Christ and complete reliance on the Holy Spirit.

Every Sunday, healing and deliverance take place as the Word of God is preached and prayer is ministered. We believe that God still works miraculously today, just as He did in the Bible.

Our Foundation: Jesus Christ is our healer and deliverer. Healing and freedom come through faith, prayer, and obedience. All glory belongs to God.

What We Witness: Healing during prayer and worship, deliverance from spiritual oppression and bondage, curses being broken through prayer, restoration of hope, faith, and purpose.

We celebrate testimonies of the blind receiving sight, the lame walking, and lives being transformed—not by human power, but by God working mightily among His people.
